I don't mind Haitian promoting konpa, but it seems to me these days the only Haitians are good at for is organizing festival. There are millions of chhildren in haiti dying of hunger and disease, we shoudl try to help them instead. I have been to anumber of festival, i never heard a promoter or musician says i am going to donate a proceed of the festival to haitian children. it is really sad, we all seem to care about money more then anything else. I think most of us forgot if we could have been in the same situation in Haiti. We need to help the less fortunate
My personal experience with the 2005 Konpa Festival was ok. I don’t think it was worth the trip from Boston. First, the festival did not start on time as advertised and they were charging my people $50 for tickets at 10 AM when tickets were supposed to be $30. my conclusion is plain and simple: Haitian only cares about the money; they don’t care about the music or the culture.
The festival was supposed to celebrate 50th anniversary of konpa music. To me they did absolutely nothing to honor the memory konpa founders, Nemours and Sicot. Only Tropicana and Zin attempted to address the issue, and then zin was boo for requesting a minute of silent for Timanno. This showed how ignorant some Haitian can be…
Anyway, the best performance of the festival was by Tropicana (still the best), Djakout, and Zin. And the rest of the performers were mediocre at best. Although the sound engineer give Nu Look better sound then the rest of the bans, but Nu Look was not all that.
Please someone needs to tell them Haitian Djs to learn who they are. We were supposed to celebrate 50th anniversary of Konpa music, but those Negroes were playing hip hop and reggae all day. Shame … shame
